India and West Indies have great camaraderie in terms of one-day internationals. Still, strong on the memory is the 1983 Prudential world cup. West Indies were the favorites of anyone in the world, cricket lover or otherwise. Still, the world and West Indies included were left surprised and lo and behold…..India won the finals at Lords!
It was Kapil’s devils….thus the media wrote. West Indies have never forgotten this…just a meager total of 183 was difficult for the mighty Windies who could not chase it then..!
Today, they are a pedestrian reminder of the old team! But, again, they are not to be written off. This year’s first world cup match…oh…my…how they threatened to drive out Pakistan out of the world cup? They finished the Pak team ad they were all out for 105 runs.
India is unbeaten in his tournaments so far. They have excellent attacking bowlers. The first time India can boast of a great variety of bowlers. The leggie duo is invincible. Chahel and Kuldeep are the duos who attack in such a way, the giant players of the West Indies will never know when the ball went below their legs and demolished the furniture. It has happened before some years ago…Courtney Walsh dd does not know till the crowd shouted and the umpire’s finger went up..!! Mohammed Shami who got his first hat trick against Afghans and ever dependable Bumrah are the ones Windies will be looking forward to negotiating. Rishabh Pant may be given a chance this time. The sad part is Shikar Dhawan who is good against the fast bowlers is missing in action. Virat will marshall his resources well apart from leading from the front.
The West Indies team has a battery of fast bowlers no doubt. Braithwaite, an all-rounder who had hit England’s Ben Stokes for four sixes in the last over to win the 2016 T20I world cup is still roaring. He just got into the act and hit a scintillating century and still, Windies lost to New Zealand the other day.
There are no great finishers on the team. Hope is a great find, so as Darren Bravo. Hetmyer is a great talent, but unlike IPL he is not among the runs here.
Holder’s team is great, but are short of International exposure and are caught napping at times in tough situations. The toss will play a hero again. If India can amass a big total above 300 runs, Windies will have a tough time chasing. If windies put up a total, India’s top order will definitely chase it, but for the strength and character of the Windies’ fast bowlers. Here, they only can have a say…..!
Indians are favorites…..but. Still can’t take the Windies lying down
